On June 9, food trucks, their followers, and local farmers and vendors will meet at the South Coast Collection in Costa Mesa for the Farm to Food Truck Challenge III hosted by SoCo Certified Farmers’ Market.

The event will feature a contest similar to that of the Food Network’s “Chopped.” Six food truck chefs will be given a mystery basket of fresh ingredients from the Farmers’ Market and then have one hour to create a dish to wow a panel of judges.

The six competitors are: Bacon Mania, Seabirds, Taco Maria, Barcelona OntheGo, Tamarindo, and Chomp Chomp Nation. Other food trucks including: Dos Chinos, Rancho a go go, Lobsta Truck, Panfiniti, Flip Truck, Tailgate, Calbi, Bakery Truck, and Tropical Shave Ice will be at the free event to feed hungry onlookers.

The panel of judges will include: Mona Shah-Anderson, O.C. Restaurant publicist, Chef Andrew Gruel, Owner of SlapFish, Chef Santanna Salas, from Haven Gastropub, Kim Glen, representing the city of Costa Mesa, and Priscilla Willis contributor to O.C. family and O.C. menus. They will be joined by the winner of their Facebook judging contest who will be announced the morning of the Food Truck Challenge.

The event will have live music, free parking, and of course food. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the Food Truck Challenge kicking off at 12 p.m.  There will also be a canned food drive for Share Our Selves.  The event is partnered with BAMGAM (Buy A Meal Give A Meal) and Costa Mesa Cheer.
